"Are People People?" has been omitted from many reissue campaigns, probably because it has very little to do with Depeche Mode. It has strong similarities to a Fats Comet track (as noted in another comment) and "Abortive" by Ministry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6vxRqD13t4 as well as containing an uncredited sample from "When I Woke Up This Morning" by The Citadels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMyC2aE-K1Y

Given how f'd up Adrian Sherwood's early experiments sound nowadays, I can't imagine how f'd up they must have sounded in 1984. It shows what kind of group Depeche Mode, plus Daniel Miller, were to release this record, and not immediately throw it in the garbage like others would've. What we have here is, depending on your point of view, some early attempts at industrial noise and glitch/cut-up, or somebody hitting record and randomly pressing buttons on a machine. And the start of a trend of "weird" DM remixes that add a bit of flavor to the limited 12" singles.

        Question: "Are People People?"
        Answer: "Dadadang zoozoozoom papapap!"

        Brilliant. Nothing else to say.

Stunning work from Adrian Sherwood. "Disturbing the comfortable, comforting the disturbed" makes total sense! On-U Sound science fiction dance hall in the area!

Is this the first example of a 2nd 12" with a third-party remixer at the controls? I just can't think of another. Donna Summer's I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley Remix) doesn't count as it came out 5 years after the original.

I bought this to have (Set Me Free) Remotivate Me on 45rpm 12".

Never cared at all for the Adrian Sherwood remixes.

I bought this years ago and was lucky to find it. It is a beautiful glossy cover with embossed chain design. The lettering is perfect even though the "and" isn't centered.
