Interesting how Carola found his funky bone on A1 and somehow couldn't really hold on to it. Or maybe he never saw the genius of this track. Who knows how far he could have gone if he had continued to explore that formula.

Edited 3 years agoPlayed loud: it allways gets me. I wasn’t in the scene back then, just collecting records of all dance genres on 12’´ to get the taste of it. Top 10 tech-house imo.

Sweet memories back to the days when i started DJing around 2000 and this one was a hooker straight away. I got lucky to grab a copy after searching a while. Even tough not every Track on this EP is as recognizable as A1, its still well rounded and diverse enough to seperate from the pack. While you find a lot of overpaid bad music around discogs, this one is the other way around. Good music, high value (which means, you get an EP with more than one Track to use) and low price.

Oh, sweet memories. 7th Question A1 is quite probably the most well known and anthemic track recorded by Marco Carola under the Question moniker. You couldn't get away from this one no matter where you went for an entire party season.
Canned to death by every self respecting european DJ; from Adam Beyer, Umek, Parisio, to Carl Cox, Funk D'Void, Sven Vath and God only re who else. As usual with Marco, great and crisp sound, very funky and easy on the ears, with that great little melodic hook entering everyone's head. Instantly recognizible, and while it doesn't really deviate from his formula at the time, it has that catchy sound that got everyone hooked. Top of the line four to the floor Naples funk with enough punch to satisfy even the harder techno heads!
A2, my second favorite is more on the soulful tip, with real deep and mellow groove and echoing sequences. Would fit just perfectly on Carola's "Open Systems" album. Maybe not as club friendly as the previous tune, but sneak it in during the later hours of a summer after party session and watch the crowd levitate.
The B side is not as nearly as interesting. The first track is a fast, percussive and slightly off-beat tune, with a short snippet of an echoing female voice in function of a hook. Nothing special, will do the trick on the dance floor, but not much more.
The last one here is pretty bland and uninspiring, one of those crawling minimal tracks which go on for six minutes without offering any intrigue, charm and/or chance to stir up the atmosphere in a club, let alone someone's living room.
