Notes
Farenheit 3D3 appears to be misspelled (Fahrenheit is normally spelled with an h as the 3rd letter). However this could be an intentional misspelling for the remix.

Edited one year agoJust pulled this from the archives after not listening to it for a good 25 years, and I have to say that it's aged pretty well. Of the two "Mutations" EPs I like the other one better (mainly for the Meat Beat remix), but this is very charming as well. I always thought "Chime Crime" was the best remix of "Chime" out there, and that's saying something. I kind of agree with cutjules that the Angel/Dorrell remix is too all-over-the-place to really work. It's too manipulative to work as a track that ages well. As much as I like the original version and the remixers and "The Mission" as a film, it doesn't really work for me -- too busy. Of course crowds loved it at the time because it had this awesome swelling melody behind it causing the crowd to get showered in human emotion and warmth, but when you actually know where the melody is from it doesn't quite work (at least for me). It kinda depends on how and where you hear the track to properly respond to it, I think. Cool record all around, though. I'd recommend picking up both "Mutations" EPs, some really good stuff going on.

Yes, all tracks are great, especially A1 & B2 whom the remix bring something new. It's more transe/acid than techno like remixes of FSOL's Papua New Guinea. Track B1 "Farenheit 3D3" is in new beat/acid style. Track A2 is the less interesting one, too many variations in styles, it looks like a medley.

A great release from Orbital with remix assistance. On this release Chime Crime finally get a formal release after first being heard on the great album Various – Live At The Brain from 1990.

Edited 9 years agoThis 12" is the only place to get "Steel Cube Idolatry (Dave Angel & Dave Dorrell Mutation)", a wicked psychedelic techno masterpiece with a full song structure. The highlight is a dramatic, beatless break built on a very long sample from Ennio Morricone's "Falls", from The Mission (Original Soundtrack From The Motion Picture). The one time I played it at a house party, everyone was way into it and the DJs all wanted to know what this amazing track was.

Does anybody know where Joey Beltram sampled the up-lifiting sample from which kicks in around 2m35 ?
