The label incorrectly swapped tracklists for sides A and AA.

Note also: Flux (D Mix) is apparently a remix of Flux by Arno but this info does not appear as an overt remix credit on the label, but as "Flux D mix by Arno".

Both Atypic (Black Dog Productions) "Otaku" and Anaconda "Ideas For Virtual Reality" are reissued as an audiophile 2 tracks 12" sampler / appetizer from 2024 compilation by Swiss DJ Princess P. here https://princessp.bandcamp.com/album/various-artists

Which remix of Otaku is better than the original? None, but the sample of it in Orca: Intalect is fantastic!

Rather misleading name for an EP that contains only tracks by Balil and Atypic. A shame Rising High entirely ghosted Warp when they were putting together Trainer; at least the Parasight EP remains more obtainable.

In all the years I've had this, it's never dawned on me before - but Pillars & Mirrors is a sort of revisit of Sharp Shooting On Saturn, isn't it? Ends up in a very different place of course, but it's in there, somewhere. I've often thought during the classic lineup years, the Black Dog did subtly rework bits & pieces from different tracks into entirely new ones (not a criticism btw), but I'd never really twigged this one before.

Otaku... one of the greatest electronic tracks ever for my money. I've listened to it countless times, and its beauty never fails to capture me each and every one of those times. It's a perfect transporter - I'm literally there, back in '93, wide-eyed with wonder at this new form of electronic music I'm rapidly discovering, day after day, night after night. I can the smells of the era even. I know that's a common strong memory link, but this track just seems to bring particular scents back to me.
It even manages to squeeze that dark and foreboding short breakdown section in, just to highlight the beauty that it returns to again. A thing of wonder. Don't just take my word for it, see the other reviews here that speak of it so highly. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favour and seek it out posthaste!

I wonder if they'll be a repress or a bandcamp release?

I bought this when it came out (as I was and am a huge irer of 'Bytes,' and the GPR Black Dog and their many aliases) and in truth, it's never far from my record deck. Simply for the eight minute 'Otaku'.
Shades of 2 Step garage in the beats which skip along in a wonderfully non 4x4 linear way, add the stunning melodic elements and you have a modern day classic which still sounds as fresh today as it did back then.
True electronic Soul. Simon Reynolds was wrong, *edit* I still listen to this track on a regular basis. And the more I think about it, the more it sounds like the future and vastly superior to so much electronic music being made today. If some producers put a fraction of the effort, wit, soul and love into their music that this track has, we would have far more sonically adventurous ideas to listen to. Inspiring and inspirational, timeless and timely....

There's no arguing for taste, but surely Otaku is the standout here. Absolutely exquisite BDP, very much in the vein of Bytes-era sound. I first came across it only a couple of years ago - really took me back to 1993, pure joy.

Have to say that this record but specifically "FLUX" has become one of my all time favourite tunes. It's hard to believe it's nearly twenty years old but still sounds really modern and futuristic.
I first heard it as the last track on a recent Fabric or Fabriclive mix compilation and thought at the time it must be a newish release and was surprised to see it on Discogs as released in '92. I bought it immediately. I was still raving proper back then and would have loved to have heard it coming up on XTC.
Not so keen on the other tracks as they sound the age that they are which is OK but FLUX really stands out for me.
