Notes
'Plum' Atlantic pressing on red/white/plum label.
This is the 5th of 9 known 'plum' label variations. Specific features for this:
• 'Marketed by Polydor Records Limited' at 6 o'clock.
• 'Under license from Atlantic Recording Corpn.' in white area under 'Atlantic' on left side.
• 'Led Zeppelin' is printed above spindle hole.
(Variation 3 had a printed label in smaller type-face, and Variations 1 and 2 had the band name printed below the spindle hole in the 'plum' section.)
• Catalogue number at 3 o'clock above circular 'Atlantic' logo reads 'deluxe 2401012'
• There is no 'Executive Producer Peter Grant' credit on the label but the printed inner sleeve still retains the credit.
• Side B has the following error: 'Misty Mountain Hop' is misspelt as 'Misty Mountain Top'.
℗ 1971
Publishing: Kinney Music Ltd. / Superhype Music Inc.
Some copies have the inner with five credits lines, while some copies have the inner with four credits lines. In this case 'Photography⋅Keith⋅Morris' is not mentioned. (see pics)
This release was commonly referred to as 'Led Zeppelin IV', to follow in sequence with their previous three releases, but no actual title appears on the release.
Runouts are stamped, except PECKO DUCK and PORKY is etched.
Variant 5, side B: '1' before 9 mirrored.

Hello, can anyone please tell me what those first press have better than the 1972 press, if anything? Or if they cost just more because they are the first press. thanks
-
Looking to the printed inner sleeves: which one is the earliest version - the 4 line credits, or the 5 line credits one (showing also the PHOTOGRAPHY . KEITH . MORRIS .)? I'm asking, because I can't believe, that both versions appeared at the same time.
Thanks in advance for helping me. -
Almost impossible to tell the difference between Version 5 and Version 8 of this LP. Any experts in spot the difference please let me know,

Edited one year agoI have variant #9 in G+ condition so there’s abit of crackle in parts but once Robert’s vocals kick in and Bonzo’s drums fire up. You know instantly that the UK plum label is the one to have. I have had several versions over the years ( Australian and New Zealand pressings mainly ) but this would be my pick thus far.

On my copy, the song Stairway to Heaven sounds a bit muffled :(
I have to turn the high frequencies on the equalizer to maximum -
Hi! I'm looking for a sleeve from this record (inner and outer). If suddenly you have it and don't need it, I'm ready to buy it.
-
Agreed; on the RTR Turntable this morning after decades unplayed and I have to say it sounds pretty damn good - still :-)
