I bought 2 new copies of this in 1978 where the local “Greek Connection Disco” had in heavy rotation. The clubs German female DJ also worked at the local music store that sold them and it was her favorite. Best of happy times with this beast of a funk tune.

Edited 9 years agoPay attention & be aware of this 2000+ bootleg: http://discogs.versitio.com/The-Bar-Kays-Holy-Ghost-Monster/release/3685366 It shows 3 inner circles on the label- 2 are photocopies of the original 12" release, plus one actual/physical small circle. The labels are made from wonky poor photocopy scans. Etchings are D-123 A / D-123 B. Buyers, don't get stung, & sellers- use your eyes & stop listing these in the OG sections, twice now I have received this cheap booty ed off as an original & laughed when opening the parcel... Infuriating. If you are attempting to buy any of the original/early pressings, be double sure it matches the listing image on the page you bought it from.

ABSOLUTELY FUNKY! "Holy Ghost" is probably the funkinest track ever. The break is a fist-pumping, baby-making, earth-shattering groove to delight any lover of 70's funk and soul. "Monster" is a bit slower, but still just as funky, reminiscent of a slow drive on a Saturday night. A must have for any funk lover, collector, hip hop DJ or breaks enthusiast. Play "Monster" on 45 for an even nastier groove. May the funk be with this record!
