Power. Crashes from your speakers and gets better as you turn the volume control upwards! I have the MOV repress and a 2019 reissue and they both suck all the energy from the mix. My original CD was my “go to” version…until now! Solid EQ and strong low end but vocals rise above due to vibrant midrange. Loud and aggressive with nice balance, which was lacking in the aforementioned pressings. Get this one!

Are the slip mats inside of the jacket, or is it when they’re included you’d see it outside of the jacket under the shrink wrap?

I also have to agree with “wilcofilm” in regards to the damage the slip mat will do to the vinyl. Of course like all of us that have posted about it, I found out too late and my vinyl on both sides are ruined with a cloudy permanent film that cannot be removed. It is etched in like a tattoo. The sound quality is greatly affected too as it sounds really muffled and any dynamics that were there before are gone. This goes for all slip mats that you might get with a new album. Remove it from the vinyl sleeve and keep it somewhere well away from your records. It does as much damage as those smelly PVC sleeves. This is also known as “vinyl cancer” or “vinyl rot”. Thankfully there is a reissue still in print for this great album.

Take the slipmat away from vinyl. It's gonna destroy your vinyl. "Some copies have the cover artwork etched on Side One." This is wrong. It's a discoloration caused by a slipmat.

After seeing 4 or 5 copies of this with the slipmat and scuffing on the one side, was able to finally find one without a slipmat, and without the scuffing/noise issue. So, they are out there. For what it's worth, my copy is in the original shrink and has what I'm assuming is the original price tag with a Yen symbol stuck to the shrink. ¥1580 with "King Kong" underneath, which was about 15 US Dollars at the time. There was never an original Japanese pressing of this album, so perhaps the ones Epic originally shipped to Japan did not have the slipmat included? Regardless, the record sounds great. Not quite on the same level as the self-titled original US pressing, but still a fantastic sounding pressing.

I just bought this original pressing but it only came with 1 slipmat. So does it only come with 1 slipmat?

I just opened a sealed copy and it has the same discoloration and surface noise as described by DjNude. The surface noise did not go away even after cleaning with my Okki Nokki. Also, I would add that the volume is really low and I had to crank my amp quite a bit higher than I usually would. Overall, the sound is really good though and the surface noise was only apparent in a few of the silent parts and not too distracting.

I have two copies of this album that I bought both brand new. One still has the receipt from 11-13-1999. Both copies come with the slipmat. And I purchased the second copy sometime later.

Both copies also have some terrible surface noise. It does not over take the loud music but you definitely hear it during the quiet ages between the songs and low volume intros. No snap crackle pop, but it just looks like a bad pressing. You can see a discoloration on side 1 of both vinyl copies. Side 2 is not so bad.

Does anyone else have a copy like that?
