The soundstage isn’t terribly wide on this mastering. A lot of the music feels on top of you, which is a shame because it’s layered with so many textures and sounds that could really benefit from good imaging but I feel like this album fell victim to the loudness war that was peaking at the time and it’s pretty evident with all the compression still present. At least it’s mastered at 45rpm, which almost makes the price an easier pill to swallow. But what good is 45rpm mastering if it still sounds compressed? I’ll give it a listen through my stereo setup instead of my Sennheisers. Sometimes that helps to open up the sound on albums that feel confined.
I will say my copy seems to be pretty silent. Some folks on here got screwed with a very bad pressing, reporting many pops and clicks remaining after cleaning. Fortunately my copy seems pretty clean.
As for presentation, I’m actually pleasantly surprised. A nice foil gatefold with one foil and one plain paper sleeve housing the two gorgeous galaxy purple records. I placed them in poly lined sleeves immediately, of course. I hate glossy paper sleeves scraping dust and dirt across the grooves every time I take the record out.
Even with its sonic shortcomings, I’m glad I picked this up. It’s an album I loved when I was younger and by time I seriously got into collecting records, all the available copies on the used market were all too expensive for me. -

Edited 11 days agoMine is super-super noisy even after cleaning twice. Lots of clicks/pops, IDK why I got the trash copy of this pressing but I did. Ortofon 2M bronze also, so not a cheap cart & it's not a recurrent thing across all my records.

Edit: 2nd copy, still noisy AF. absolutely a disappointment dog-shit of a release. I'd definitely avoid buying this....tested w/my ortofon 2m red to see if that makes a difference at all from my 2m bronze but it didn't & so it's not the carts b/c tons of other albums i have aren't sounding like this. -

Really nice release. The sound on this remaster is very good, the sound is deep and the dynamics are opened dramatically compared to the streaming version. I agree with everyone else that it doesn’t reach the ceiling of what other digital remasters have been able to accomplish (Levi’s Linkin Park releases, KPG’s Blink remasters, etc). Hopefully Levi knocks it out of the park with I-empire!

Despite drying cleaning, there is some surface noise during the quiet start of Valkyrie Missile. Once the music kicks in it is not noticeable. Everything else sounds good.
The purple of the discs is nice and so is the gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeves. You can tell more money was spent than on the 2025 +44 pressing lol. -
Edited one month agoFantastic pressing. Dead quiet as far as surface noise and as dynamic as you’ll get out of this album.
