Edited 20 days agoIt has almost the same sound quality as the first press.
I think it's the best repress album that came out recently -
This succeeds and suffers on the same merits of most HQ reissues; organic verve and loudness is sacrificed for clarity and luxury. If your system can handle volume, you'll find an infinite treasure within these grooves. The music speaks for itself; another Strata-East gem of contemporary "spiritual" NY jazz.

Edited one month agoWOW!! Vinyl is almost perfectly flat and perfectly pressed - no noise at all!
Besides the slightly blurry cover, this is as perfect as it gets. Super happy with it. If they keep THAT quality throughout the series....
AAA+++ -
Does anyone else have distortion / drop-outs on Lonnie's piano in the first minute or so of "Prince Of Peace"? It's such a great record, and I had resigned myself to only having a digital found somewhere long ago. I'm not sure if what I am hearing is a drop-out, because the rest of the record seems pretty flawless. The end of Side 1 also has some similar right-channel distortion but only after the music fades out. I consider myself lucky to have scored a copy of this very limited run, and the distortion only happens a couple times in the first minute or so. Please, if anybody else hears this, chime in! The genuinely puzzling thing is that the distortion seems to affect ONLY the piano and none of the other instruments.

Absolutely thrashes my Everland Jazz copy! Must have gotten lucky on RSD cos I had no problem finding one. Balance might be the heaviest song of all time.

Highly recommended here - if you are a fan of this type of music. Great great sound quality with a fairly large soundstage and minimal confusion even when things get loud and busy (and they do!). Very well pressed and an impressive sleeve to boot. The second track, "balance", being from my favorite genre "music to clear the room".

Edited one month agoAs someone who will probably never own an OG, this reissue makes me very happy.
All analogue from a very well preserved master tape, glossy & thick tip on sleeve, and amazing music.
It's kinda insane how much Leon Thomas sounds like Pharoah Sanders' sax at times. -
Wow! Just gave it a first listen and had no expectations going in. The closest thing I’ve heard to when they’re going completely insane on this record is perhaps the Grateful Dead when they get into a deep crazy place on their 60s psychedelic tracks like Viola Lee Blues. The guy at the record shop warned me I’d either hate this or love it — definitely the latter.
