Edited one year agoTo this day I can't work out what Acen was doing with the tempo on this record- although I guess the side product of being a trail blazer is sometimes the risks won't pay off. I think this tune signals the beginning of the end of production house's golden age (and the hardcore era in general). With the gimmick of 3D sound being touted on the cover, it feels like all the ideas where being squeezed out by technical proficiency- still, an average Acen release is still head and shoulders above the competition, this just ain't up there with his best work

FUUUUUUUUUUUcccccccKKKKKKKK! The Monolythikmaniak version played @ 33 +8 !!!
I started off many sets with this & it always made a statement… TEAR THIS MUTHA FUCKA UP! -
Edited 4 years agoThis was one of the first ever records I bought when I caught the vinyl bug. I bought it blind after being a big fan of Acen's other tunes like Close Your Eyes and Trip To The Moon. However, when I got it home it confused the hell out of me as I genuinely couldn't work out whether it was supposed to be played on 45 or 33rpm. Neither sounded 'right' to me at the time.
I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. I've awarded it 5 stars simply on the basis that I respect its ambition, and the fact that Acen wasn't prepared to follow a more generic Hardcore or Jungle route whilst the scene continued to split. It's no surprise to me that the DJ who pushed it the most on the circuit was that champion of the strange and leftfield, Easygroove.
The Acen - Window In The Sky (Remixes) are more straight forward interpretations of the tune, and definitely easier to find a place for within a set.
