A major disappointment ,as contrary to all the glowing reviews, this is a collection of lo-fi , badly dated, and very dull mainly instrumental obscure disco tracks. Best tune is How Can I Tell Her , which you can find elsewhere. The amateurish Strung Out is also one of the few tuneful songs with a vocal in this compilation.Probably best for musicians though the playing on many tracks is only average. The remixes are fine. It's the songs that aren't very good.

My copy looks different to the images on the Discogs page for this item. The outer, cardboard sleeve is identical, with a red circle saying 'limited edition 5 disc box set'. The case is a white plastic jewel case, with fold out trays to hold 5 CDs. There is an image on the front and back of this jewel case, but no individual sleeves for the CDs, which seems to be what the pictures on Discogs suggest. The CDs themselves are identical.
The only other version of the boxset listed on Discogs is the Japanese one, but there are no images posted for that one. I bought my copy in the UK, so it's unlikely to be the Japanese one. I'm guessing it is a later repress.

Edited 8 years agoReally disappointing, as has been mentioned the majority of these have been edited - and not outstandingly well either, simple cut and paste that sounds a bit silly on the wonderful Curtis* - How Can I Tell Her and adds nothing (and cuts out a fair bit of the original). Can't understand why either, some of these have been extended so it's obviously not to save time.

Edited 9 years agoSome great tunes on here with high quality transfers but unfortunately almost all are marred (for me) by clumsy edits that sound totally out of sync with the originals.

Some great tracks. My standouts:
Cheryl Berdell's "Giving It All To You", Executive Suite's "Funkin'", Curtis "How Can I Tell Her", People's Workshop "Funkathone", Silver, Platinum and Gold's "Just Friends", Puffs "In The Mood", Don Renaldo "Fiddlin Around", Jimmy Sabater "To Be With You", Arts and Crafts "I've Been Searching", Hot Ice "Dancing Free" and Gordons War "The Rock is Gonna Get You" -
Great compilation of lesser known but high quality disco tunes.
One caveat - many of the tunes have been inexplicably edited for the compilation. Why anyone would want a compilation such as this marred by edits is beyond me, as some of the better breaks are simply not there. Too bad, as otherwise it's great.
