Edited 7 months agoI absolutely hate the remaster on this album.
I have the old CDs from the early 90s to compare it to and by comparison, this is unlistenable.
Don't get the high marks for this pressing at all.
Thin, shrill guitars, a flat sounding snare that really stands out in the mix, high pitched hi hat and cymbal crashes. DiGorgeos amazing bass is lowered in the mix.
The Relapse mixes for Human( which is decent) and SoP ( need a couple more listens) are both no where near this bad.
I compared it to the 2007 reissue of the original mix and the difference is astounding.

Edited 10 months agoA wonderful album, but largely underestimated due to its compositional complexity, which has been in storage much longer than the rest. Perhaps not everyone likes progressive trends, but this album is composed with good taste, it has an accentuated spirit of melancholy and subtle melodies. So zombies, blood, leper colonies are good, but sometimes you need to think about the soul and the fate of the world too =) This album is different from the previous ones, but at the same time, without it, the discography would not be as we know it.
In of sound, everything is fine, a complete repeat of what has been published by Relapse since 2017. According to personal feelings, the sound in this mastering is heavier, bassier. The rhythm section is clearly defined, the guitars are sharper. From what I can compare it with, this is the first Japanese press on CD. There, the sound is much softer and more delicate, as this album was originally conceived and fixed in memory. I never thought I'd say this, but this Death Metal album sounds on vinyl heavier than it should. And it's probably not bad, someone will definitely like it, it's a matter of habit that has developed over decades. The vinyl itself sounds clean, so nothing will stop you from enjoying this heavy album.
In of design, the metal cover is kind of cool, but no more. It does not look very appropriate, the previous versions, when individual design elements were foiled, looked richer. The vinyl's color scheme goes well with the basic cover design and artwork. A good press, which is still worth its reasonable money. If for some reason you don't have this album and you don't have 300 euros for the first press, this variant may be suitable.
