The sound on this reissue is great, and I highly recommend it for freestyle fans, and especially Company B fans. Only mistake I will point out is in the liner notes when, to mention the still potent appeal of "Fascinated," they reference a Lipsync for Your Life from a 2021 episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race," and incorrectly credit the win to Elliott With Two T's; the winner was Utica. But that's a minor quibble because the CD is great.

Why omg why? Why in the world was this not released as a double CD remastered edition, with the Fascinated (Dubinated Version 1:48) and the Fascinated (Instrumental 5:20) and the other dubs, mixes, etc., only available in 12" format of the other hits? What a wasted opportunity. By the time they realize the horrible mistake and release a new remastered with all the missing tracks, no one will remain alive to know who Company B was or their music.

Took the plunge and picked up this new expanded CD. The main album tracks sound like and, indeed, visually appear to be exact clones of the original USA Atlantic Records CD. So it's not technically "remastered". But it sounds fine.
The main draw for me are the bonus tracks. They are, without a doubt, 100% from master tapes and sound excellent! And, though they did NOT appear on the original Atlantic Records CD, they are mastered in the same manner as those original album tracks, so they also have that "classic late 80's" uncompressed mastering quality to them. Nice booklet as well.
So if you're looking for the original Atlantic CD release, might as well just pick THIS up. That gives you the EXACT same audio tracks as the original CD, plus 5 bonus tracks - 4 of which have never appeared on CD before. -
Edited one year agoJust discovered this new release and am curious how the sound quality is. Can anyone comment, especially on the 5 bonus tracks? Are they from master tapes or vinyl transfers? Of the 5 bonus tracks, only the Club Mix of "Fascinated" has ever been previously released on the CD format, so to have "Full Circle" and "Perfect Lover" on CD would be AWESOME. This is apparently the first and so far only release from Stereo Sonic so I'm just not sure what to expect.
