Edited 4 months agoI got this at the Slowdive gig in Montreal, January 2025. Amazing show! But the merch was really expensive. I paid $50CAD when I could have gotten it for $25CAD at my local record shop. But hey, at least I have the nice thought of ing the band haha.
The packaging is good. Comes with a poly lined paper sleeve. I didn’t receive a code however, not that I care. My record actually sounds pretty clean and pretty quiet. Not the quietest but the surface noise is barely audible on my copy.
The mastering is not bad but not outstanding. Compared to my MOV pressings of Slowdive this pales in comparison. I find this album lacks a bit of low end punch and a bit of top end sparkle. I actually press the loudness button on my amp for this record and I gotta say it sounds stellar with it. Nothing wrong with a little EQ.
Otherwise this is a great album. I found self-titled a little lacklustre. “Everything is alive” however sounds like a perfect evolution of what Slowdive has become. Probably my 2nd favourite record of theirs after Souvlaki. -

Had a bad clear version, but this standard black is better in my experience. Luck of the draw these dark days.

Edited one year agoAnd again a mediocre pressing and so-so vinyl mastering of an otherwise magnificent Slowdive album. It’s not a disaster, but I’ll stick to the CD which sounds a lot better.

Honestly, I really love that album and all of the tracks. From the artistic point of view it's a masterpiece. But pressing and mastering are just - terrible. Is it only my copy? Noticeable noise on all tracks and most of the tracks just seem to be overmodulated. I swear, it's not my system. I compared with other records and they are ok. I wonder if it makes sense to order a replacement copy...
