Edited one month agoWould love to see H.O.M.E. get a 12" release. I heard them play it live at All About Love and it was one of the highlights of my summer '23. Right up there as one of my best Orb excursions so it deserves a quality vinyl pressing
-
After Ultraworld and UF Orb this is my favourite. A lovely mix of thundering Dub and up beat dance music.A album full of crackly samples .
-
The spindle holes are so tight that I cracked both vinyl/labels, even if I tried to be gentle, the records eventually need to get down to the platter or they can't be played. Maybe they weren't designed to be played? I mean, listening to the sub par vocals that makes you wonder why they weren't left for the Bonus CD so that we could at least try to enjoy the music that there is.
The opening H.O.M.E. (High Orbs Mini Earths) is promising, as is the ensuing track, but the whole B side is complete dross. As a summation, all tracks without vocals are better than I would have expected after the letdown Abolition album but the lack of quality control and the inclusion of vocals on too many tracks makes this a 3/5 experience.
I am not one of the long time fans since the debut that give this newest incarnation any thumbs up. At least the Lee Perry excursions made perfect sense, but here, the B and C side just leaves me unimpressed even if its better than the last album.
Now, I await for the mandatory remarks, "no no the vocals are great, this is my favourite Orb album, just as good as the debut". Yeah, right.. -
The pressing is horrible even after cleaning with an ultrasonic machine. After having tried a second one I am going for a refund and buy the CD. It really is a shame. Why do artists not insist on good pressings of their records?

of course it's noisy, The Orb sample noisy records :)
pressing itself is okay I thought, it had some debris I had to brush off and the center hole was really small, plus the inners are weirdly tight, so yeah kinda shoddy all around. there was some surface noise that wasn't on the digital version but mostly between tracks. still annoying though.
oh well. very good album though, it's on par with their classics I think -
-
Disappointing press. Might have been unlucky but Sides C/D was a REALLY warped record, not even exaggerating, with a lot of pops throughout all 4 sides.
-
Edited 2 years agoA few annoying pops and clicks in the quieter ages which is par for the course in 2023 I guess. Not AB'd it with the digital but to my old ears it sounds ok apart from the aformentioned.
