First time listening to the album to see what is all the fuss about and got me a VG+ copy.
God dam why was this not more popular? -
I have an A-11/B-10, HTM on side 1 with some other on side 2 looks like backwards C1.......A11/B10 is listed as 5th pressing on PF Archives website.
It sounds stunning, plays NM in most places and VG+ in others. Great extended low end and 3D staging, I bought this version maybe 6-7 years ago. -
Just got a copy. Fairly clean - bit crackly. I don’t quite understand the hype of this pressing - it has waaaaay too much bottom end. NOT my gear - 2016 Rega P3 - Ortofon 2M Black - Sennheiser HD650 - my modern reissue is a million times quieter and sounds more balanced to me. Nice to have an OG ‘77, but I don’t prefer it …

Are you looking for the best sounding version of DSOTM and don't want to spend a fortune?
Then I can recommend this version.
I've done a lot of research and bought other versions.
I like this one the best!
I'm not alone in this opinion - it's a real fan favourite.
This version with the laquer cut by Harry Moss is an absolute killer.
Pay attention to all the details when buying to identify this version and distinguish it from other editions.
And be sure to look out for ‘HTM’ in the runout.
Then you have the famous Harry Moss mix...

Not sure if the date for this is correct. We definitely bought this well before 1977! Would be 74/75 latest.

Edited 7 months agoI think this is my favorite DSotM pressing.. the 5th UK, HTM etched cut (-10/-9).
I've got the 50th (clear UV printed), 2016, 2003, and two different Mofi's. They're all great (kind of to find a bad copy of this album) but this UK is clearly betters all these. Even though my copy is in EX condition, the vinyl is technically the most noisey out them all, but the clarity, detail, punch and sound stage far outweighs that minor gripe. I
The drums in particular sound incredible, better than any other copy I have. Anyway, I highly recommend this pressing! 👍👍 -
Edited 7 months agoThis is probably the 10th pressing I’ve owned. I’ve sold the eight or so that came before. Now I have this 1977 Harry Moss cut and BG’s 50th anniversary. I’ve owned Parson’s ‘73 UK Quad, KPG’s 30th anniversary, both ‘79 and ‘81 MoFis, BG’s 2016, and a smattering of others. They’ve either been too noisy or anaemically mastered. This one, I got in VG+ condition (sold to me as NM, which it does look but isn’t quiet enough to sound). Its surface can be noisy in quieter parts, unlike the absolutely DEAD QUIET (€16) 50th pressing; but it can sound more present, raw, clear and dynamic in the louder parts than the 50th. So, I guess for now I have two copies until I can decide to live with one of them. I make this sound like a disappointment and, while it would be cool to just get a perfect sounding early pressing, this is the fun and magic of vinyl grail hunting. I’ve gotten to listen to a bunch of different DSOTM pressings, which is definitely fun! So far this is my favorite analogue pressing.

Edited 3 months agoThis beats Japanese 1974 pressing (Tan EMI) which sounds too polite, and BG cut (2016, 50th) which is good but digital, both out of water. Really really great details, soundstage and dynamics.
To me, this sounds like a truly 3D or VR state-of-the-art experience.
Definitely the definitive version of this masterpiece. If you can’t get 30th or UK 1st/2nd/3rd then get this one. -
I have an A-9/B-8 and an A-10/B-9. They both sound the best I've ever heard it. Supposedly the German 'white circle' pressing is better? Maybe I'll find out someday, but until then this one is tops for me (that I can afford).
