Edited one month agoAn excellent release. I disagree with the bright comments--at least on my system, but I agree his harmonica has some bite.
His voice is properly forward in the mix, but I wish there was more definition in the bass.
One caveat: if you don't like Dylan's voice, this release will not change your mind.
The plating is masterfully done at RTI; the first step required for a quality pressing. Thankfully GZ delivered with the vinyl pressing; mine is flat, centered, and quiet. The packaging is lovely. I store mine spine out so Dylan's head sits sideways.
Money well spent IMO. I bought mine at discount from VMP along with a few other pressings also at discount. -
Fantastic package. The sound maybe a little bright, but I've got the SONY mono if I want a warmer listen.
I can imagine that this is what Bob was looking for back in the day. Word is that he was very involved in the mono mix for BoB at the time. -

This is a beautiful package. A must-have if you're a Dylan fan. Lovely thick outer. Beautiful quiet pressing. Nice artwork. And blonde-coloured vinyl. Selling my other mono.

Another great pressing by VMP. This pressing is very bright (even more so on a warm system like mine [Denon Amp & Klipsch 600 II speakers]). So if you don't like a lot of treble or sensitive to treble like me, you'll need to turn the treble down on your amp. Outside of that, everything else is fantastic.

I don’t know man, this is just way to bright. The harmonica makes my ears bleed, it’s not an authentic sound at all., but to each there own

i've got original mono and stereo pressings and this is now my reference copy. so lively and such detailed sound. i can understand why some people might find this a bit fatiguing but i don't think it's a fault with the mix/mastering/pressing i think it's just that there's a lot of detail and transients. and of course the colored vinyl and packaging are tasty. another exceptional job by vmp.

Before commenting, I’ve listened to this front to back a few times. First off, theres no distortion with respect to sibilance, everything is clear when played on my system (levinson TT w/ortofon bronze cartridge). It’s hard to imagine any mono versions of this album sounding much better than this, if there are than so be it. But this one sounds good enough for me to mark this album as checked off for my vinyl collection.
