Edited 9 months agoAfter I recently meeting the legendary duo's debut work again, after a couple of years, of course been blown away, it was about time to rediscover their quasi-final work too. And what can you say? I really, really love this thing too! The beats are sublime, Pete Rock has his perfect run here, his style is so unique and characteristic, it´s ridiculous. Hard but somooth, everything comes a tat catchier here, jazzier and melodic, even more accessible than two years before I should say, but christ NEVER any any way poppy or twisted, it remains absolutely straight, deep black and groovy, the thing is dripping with atmosphere, full of soul from Mr.Phillips´ enormous record vault, and CL's fantastic flow fits seamlessly into this gear. It's dreamy, a beautiful journey, an "Escape" deep into the 90s. Here too, tastefully sampled highlights line up with brilliantly arranged highlights, like pearls on a necklace: I love CL's little sung vocals, the irresistible "Carmel City", "I Get Physical" blows away with its loop, its dry beat and the scratches, the hung up "I Got A Love", the title track with KRS-One´s "whoop whoop" on the chorus, "All The Places", "In The Flesh", no, it makes no sense to pick apart such a consistent and tight album. Immortal stuff.
