Edited 9 years agoAround this period Coltrane recorded three albums (Ballads and the album with Johnny Hartman are the other two) that were fairly tame by his standards. A lot of Trane fans are disappointed by these releases, but I like this one. Coltrane's virtuosity is tempered by the old master, and this album features some really nice music with Coltrane at his most accessible. This version of "In a Sentimental Mood" blows me away, and is the highlight of this album. "Stevie" and "My Little Brown Book" are also great.
