With Springsteen being one of the greatest artists of all time living or dead, with that being said, he’s charted less singles than nearly anyone on the planet, with but 3 of his top 20 single hits finding their way into the Top 10 for radio airplay.

While “Fire” wasn’t among those hits, the song was written shortly after seeing his idol Elvis Presley back in 1977, who’s fence [at Graceland] Bruce jumped and made for the front door around the 27th of October in 1975, the same week Bruce was featured on the covers of both Time and Newsweek magazines … though disappointingly Elvis was at Lake Tahoe.

Oddly enough, “Fire” would be both recorded and renamed “Slow Hand” by the Pinter Sisters, who achieved the number 2 slot on the Top 10. But turning to the flip side, and the song “Incident on 57th Street,” a live version, saw Springsteen lay down the longest 45 [the big hole 7” 45rpm] ever put to wax, clocking in at a staggering 10 minutes and three seconds. Regardless of the stereo mastering, the thinness of the grooves to allow for such and extensive recording did little for the fidelity, and in the end, did give Mr. Springsteen a not so hit single of history making noteworthiness.
