the tunes, the artwork, the disregard for the conventions of the genre. a great moment for artist and label.

"A Journey to Reedham" for me is another instance of Squarepushers talent to make something beautiful without sacrificing any of his crazy style. "Massif" and "tequila fish" are also songs that follow this kind of style on this album, beautiful melodies and hardcore drums and breaks that are typical for Squarepusher.
The album comes with a lot of amen breaks and provides a lot of new ideas for that time. I guess that is what gives off a very "fresh" feeling.
"Big Loada" is simply great to listen to and is one of those albums showcasing what D'n'B could be if you break free from the genre typical style. -
This album changed my life. I was visiting a friend at MICA in Baltimore, and we were walking through all the different student art studios, and this kid was blasting this album while painting. Hearing this album for the first time was like scuba diving for the first time, or flying in an airplane for the first time... it changed the way that I looked at the world. After I heard this album, I only wanted to hear music and make music like this. This album is probably my most significant influence in my musical taste, and I even have the album cover tattooed on my body.

This is an example how to be mad & funky and also to make experiments in drum'n bass in a perfect way. Tom Jenkinson shows us the future of this genre. Watch out his other releases on Warp, Rephlex and his own label Spymania...
