Nice album, no playability issues at all. Blue Note should consider putting a warning label on their albums, not for cheap tables, that is what it comes down to. Maybe a informational page or something would be good. These records are cut for mid/upper level setups, that simple. The mono sounds great here, Byrd is smoking, this record is cut hot for sure with great dynamics.

Man, this is the type of record that makes it a worthwhile endeavor to have a dedicated mono cartridge. This is an absolute smoker both musically and pressing wise. The music just jumps out the speakers on this one.

No noise, no ticks, no skips. Those with skips - are you sure your tracking force is well set up? It does appear to be cut kinda hot - not sure if slight overload is on tape. My 2M Black had no tracking issues whatsoever. Pressing mildly off center.

Definitely in the 10 LPs I’d take to a deserted island. The warmth of the sound on this recording is magic.

Edited 2 years agoGood pressing here overall, largely free of the defects mentioned below. No skipping at all and pretty clean. There is a slight dish warp that does not affect playback. Good (not great) mastering that at least crushes my 1983 French pressing- but that is not saying much... Worth the price paid in my case.

The classic series really went down hill. The tone poet series is all I’ll be buying from now on. This thing skips all over the place. Has a lot of distortion and is just generally a bad pressing.
