It's rarely ranked among McCartney's best efforts, but I've always liked LONDON TOWN. "Backwards Traveller" is a great not-quite-a-song with an inspired vocal, "I've Had Enough" is one of his more underrated rockers, "Famous Groupies" is a fun little ditty, "Don't Let It Bring You Down" has a nice slow groove, the title track has a quintessential Macca melody and lyrics, "Deliver Your Children" might be the best Wings song sung by Denny Laine, "Name and Address" is a fun fusion of new wave and rockabilly, and the album as a whole has a distinctive vibe that's unique in McCartney's catalog. Granted, "Morse Moose and the Grey Goose" isn't among anyone's finest moments, but at least it's sensibly located at the end of side two. No issues with this pressing, despite the 50+ minute length. There's ample low end, and a lush, robust soundstage. My copy plays nice and clean for the most part, with light surface noise at the beginning of each side, faint surface noise between a few songs, and a couple of skips on "I'm Carrying". -
Edited 7 months agoThis Is The Best Wings Era McCartney Album And This Pressing Sounds Great. I've Always Felt That London Town Is The Spiritual Successor To The Beatles Revolver. There's Just A Certain Magical Atmosphere And The Production Is Fantastic, Not To Mention All The Songs Are Awesome Too. -
So, I have two copies of this record now and they are both in really nice shape; however, they both have a skip in seemingly the exact same spot on side two. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a factory defect or do I just have terrible luck?
