So, do I have it right that the Massey Hall 2-Disc version has the video from this concert synced up with the Massey Hall footage? And then this one has the same video footage, but with the audio that actually is from the Young Shakespeare performance?

Brilliant package, maybe a blu ray would have been better but the concert footage is not exactly videophile! Might have allowed less compression though? Anyway the audio is great on all fronts. The vinyl is vourtesy of Record Industry hands down the best plant in the world in 2022 considering how much they knock out hell they do an £18 record better than QRP/RTI 1- steps and UHQRs lol.
CD sounds much the same and nice to have. Packaging decent.
Nice one Neil, the man knows quality when it comes to record releases.

Spinning my copy now for the first time.

I have Massey Hall and Cellar Door, so I was hesitant to purchase another, especially given that like you, Massey Hall is my favourite album. Do I need three versions of almost the same concert?

This one is a little different in feel and sound, and it sits right in the middle between the other two. Nothing compares to Massey Hall. It's big, bright, and epic, and Neil's performance is perfection.

It's also the first released and was profound for me to hear the first time, knowing that Old Man and Heart Of Gold were being heard for the first time by the audience. It almost gives you chills listening, that they don't know these songs yet.

That effect is still there a little with this and CD, but not quite as much, so a little less magic. But if you've not heard MH or CD, then it'll still be "Woah..." for you.

Cellar Door seems a little less confident. It's a very quiet performance with a small polite audience, and Neil seems a little off. His voice is a bit weaker, maybe less confident. It needs to be really listened to to get it. It's a very different experience than MH. More raw.

Shakespeare sits kind of in the middle. A perfect performance, with what seems like a slightly more present, larger audience. A really wonderful performance that sounds good.

But do I need it since I have the other two? The answer is probably not. It's a little redundant of I'm being honest. But there is one thing that differentiates it from the other two, and that's Sugar Mountain. It's a gorgeous rendition and it's the only song not on MH or CD and it may be worth it just for that pure acoustic version.

MH and CD are pricey and hard to come by now, so this is essential for anyone who doesn't have those albums.

I may return my boxset and just get the regular release as I'm not sure I'll watch the film more than once anyway, and the idiots at Amazon sent me the boxset in an oversized box where it got knocked around during shipping.

Is it just me who think the vinyl got quite a lot of background noise and the same on the cd? Especially when I compare w Massey Hall.

Review both LP Only and Box Set versions: Both have excellent packaging, solid gatefold, quality finish, black paper poly-lined sleeves, box is sturdy, tight fit, and precise. Vinyl on both versions appears clean, flat, and centered. Low noise (very quiet vinyl), dynamic, vocals, guitar, and piano super clear and present, well-balanced. LP only copy has minor vinyl aberration last track, but couple tics nearly inaudible. Box version no blemishes, both play free of pops.

Compared with the Massey Hall release (https://discogs.versitio.com/Neil-Young-Live-At-Massey-Hall-1971/release/3610191), they are very similar, however, to my ears, Massey Hall is slightly more big and present, more visceral, at times a hint of sibilance. Whereas, on Shakespeare, Neil's voice is sweet and smooth. Massey has more crowd and venue presence. Both are top shelf acoustic Young recordings, IMHO.
