Edited one year agoThe main difference between this release and the CD is the EQ and dynamics :
- The original CD has the better EQ, this one has the mids sucked out and sounds a bit tired in comparison
- The LP has muuuuuch better dynamics which makes for a less fatiguing listen. Also has a larger soundstage and doesn't sound as brittle.
Pick your poison. I'm keeping both. -
Nothing like it sounds on CD which is the medium I grew up on. If, like me, this is one of your favourite albums ever... don't buy this pressing. It's flat and not dynamic at all. It's a big let down.

Just grabbed this today. From an audio standpoint, this pressing is serviceable. I'd call it "good enough". It's colored vinyl and pressed by gz so as you'd expect it's got a bit of surface noise. The music always overpowers that background crackle thought. Disc was a bit warped, also characteristic of gz, but didn't affect play, so it's all good. If you're all about audio I'd say just buy the cd.
Visually, I think this pressing is fantastic. I usually am not a big fan of how relapse packages their records. Jackets usually feel cheap and flimsy, but this one is a bit better than usual. Record comes housed in a paper sleeve which is nothing to complain about, just replace it for sure. The brightest spot of the whole package is the printing of the cover. The images look super clear, and the black on black circuit board printing (or whatever it is) looks really cool. Tbh that's the main reason I decided to buy it. I generally think colored vinyl is pretty corny, but I'm loving the neon orange here. It goes perfectly with the album cover.
Buy this specific repress if you want, don't if you don't want to, I don't really care. But DO go buy a copy of calculating infinity, be it digital, cd, or vinyl, because this album is a classic among Relapse and Dillinger's epic catalogues.
