I was super anxious to spin this because of the reviews but I guess I got a lucky pressing. To my relief there wasn’t a single skip, at most a little bit of popping here and there, which I guess you could expect from such a complex pressing - other than that it sounded great. Maybe not a perfect pressing but probably your best bet if you want a good-sounding colored variant of this masterpiece without having to pay for the boxset!

Edited 2 years agoPops here and there throughout the first few songs on each side. Loud treble and sounds clear, just turn up the bass and it's still very much enjoyable. Didn't notice significant inner distortion. Quality control is kinda bad as you can feel the edge of the disc being extremely rough. Still I prefer this release because I hate flipping discs so much.

i love this album so much, but it skips a lot for me. i’ve cleaned it several times but it still skips a bunch on “butterfly” and a couple of other songs. i have a record player with an adjustable counterweight and antiskate and it still skips. but overall the pressing is beautiful!

The bass is pretty bad on this gold version. The vinyl sounds clear but it lacks depth and takes away the mood of this album, especially on The Beautiful Ones which sounds just too loud without any good bass to . Nevertheless a clear sounding vinyl and a beautiful spiral gold. Great for fans collection.

i mean wow… stunning pressing - one of the prettiest i’ve ever seen. packaging and lyric sleeve are really nice. sounds great too and phenomenal album.

My copy is pretty nice. I love the color of the record so much and I also love the inner sleeve too. The pressing is pretty good, with a little bit of surface noise and crackles in some places. Overall, it’s pretty good!

I think the pressing looks really awesome. It is clear and there is a metallic ripple throughout - however - Mine must have been shipped through a tornado because the inner sleeves were in weird shape. There are issues with these Urban represses, but that's another story.
In my opinion this sounds like CRAP. I could have received a bad copy, but there's a lot of static between songs and crackling as if I had played this record for 5 years. Side two is not as bad, but it's different than any other of the Mariah vinyls I own. Maybe the metallic dye makes it more prone to static?
I also think this is a flimsy pressing. Rainbow feels more substantial. And like the Britney UO represses the edges are jagged and rough.
Overall -- It is pretty to look at, but the sound quality isn't great, the quality is inconsistent, and I'm over UO.

Did anyone else's record have a seam split on top? I ordered a few copies and they all have it in the same exact spot

The gold pressing is a step up from the standard black pressing as there's much less sibilance and the sound is much more balanced. However, it's still a little noisy. Will there ever be a day this gets a high quality vinyl release?
