Notes
2000 copies.
After the original release Piñata in 2014, artist Pathetic Pixels created his own personal version of Piñata as an early 70s Blaxploitation movie poster. This design only existed in the digital realm until being prepared for release on Record Store Day.
The ’74 edition is a single LP edit of Piñata lacquered at half speed master by Metropolis Mastering in London for the highest fidelity. The Record Store Day version (’74) was released on October 24, 2020.

Sounds absolutely amazing, haven't heard any of the other vinyl releases but this one sounds perfect! Also certain tracks have been edited down in length, I'm assuming to help it all fit on one record.
-
Between this pressing and the latest ‘64 repress this sounds much better. Everything feels clearer, the bass deeper, and the quality overall is much better.

Edited 2 years agoMhhm so now we already have 3000 for this and also 600+ for the "repress" with 64 Labels.... So anybody knows whats really the deal, as We almost hit 4000?! And HHV still got Records left...Also I Am curious do all represses have the 64 Labels? And did maybe some of the mispressed units still find a way to be sold? That would explain the high count..

I also got the '64 label on the vinyl, not a big deal to me, but beware/check if that is important to you. I also agree this is a great sounding pressing for being a single record pressing.

Edited 4 years agohad no clue of this apparent repress but found at least 6 copies at my local Newbury Comics today, sans the RSD sticker. picked one up and it actually has the ‘64 labels on the record itself - i guess beware of that if you’re interested. sounds great

Apparently an additional 1000 units have been pressed bringing the total to 3000. They are being sold by Rough Trade and HHV. Here is the dubious explanation from the HHV website:
The story: Only a few copies made it t the stores for RSD 2020. Why exactly? We don't know. Now there is a one time repress and those of you we couldn't make happy last year will have their second chance now. -
Jumping in just to say if you have a chance to nab this one, don't hesitate. Bass really pumps and the sound is clear and balanced. You get the one LP flip with no sacrifice in fidelity! Ideal.

Edited 4 years agoThis pressing sounds so nice ! Very well balanced between the highs and lows, sounds organic as well. I read someone talking about some distortion down below, this is not the case, or at least not more than the slight distortion that you generally get on the end of a vinyl; especially as a bit of distortion on Freddie's voice can also be found on the streaming version. This is honestly a great deal. Of course parts have been cut, but its an easy pill to swallow considering that - if i understood correctly- Madlib had control over this rework. Buy while its not rare !
