Reunion Big Band – My Life Is Now (Tributo A Marco Tamburini)

La Reunion Big Band, fondata da Marco Tamburini insieme a Roberto Rossi e Piero Odorici, con l’obiettivo di riunire alcuni dei migliori giovani musicisti jazz emiliani e toscani, ha debuttato nell’autunno del 1999 al Chet Baker, famoso club bolognese dove si è esibita due volte al mese per un’intera stagione. Si è così andato consolidando, intorno alla figura di Tamburini – musicista capace di unire grande talento e professionalità ad una non comune carica umana – un gruppo affiatato e stilisticamente omogeneo di jazzisti, fra cui alcuni giovani talenti che nell’orchestra hanno fatto le prime importanti esperienze professionali e sono cresciuti musicalmente.
La Reunion Big Band si è esibita negli anni successivi in molti festival, teatri e club italiani; dopo un lungo periodo di inattività, si è nuovamente riunita nell’estate del 2012 per accompagnare la cantante Dee Dee Bridgewater al Narni Black Festival. Questo concerto, oltre che rappresentare un’importante tappa nella vita dell’orchestra, ne ha determinato la ripresa dell’attività, prima sotto la direzione del trombettista cesenate poi, dopo la sua scomparsa, dell’amico e trombonista Roberto Rossi. Oltre che reinterpretare con arrangiamenti originali i grandi classici del jazz orchestrale americano, sia di sapore swing che di gusto più moderno, non sono mai mancate nel repertorio della big band anche le composizioni del leader, che costituiscono il materiale con cui l’orchestra firma oggi il suo debutto discografico e ricorda il suo compianto leader.
I dieci magnifici brani scelti per questa registrazione, tutti di Marco Tamburini, i brillanti arrangiamenti con cui ci vengono riproposti, così come gli splendidi assoli presi dai musicisti dell’orchestra, oltre che da ospiti del calibro di Pietro Tonolo, Fabrizio Bosso (magnifici i loro assoli in Bossa to Criss) e Marcello Tonolo (che mette il sigillo, con Roberto Rossi a Eduard), sono il miglior modo per rendergli omaggio, valorizzare la sua musica e ringraziarlo dell’immenso contributo dato al jazz italiano. Da segnalare il tema struggente del brano che dà il titolo al disco, fra le ultime composizioni di Marco, perfetta sintesi del suo sentire umano e musicale.

The Reunion Big Band, founded by Marco Tamburini together with Roberto Rossi and Piero Odorici in order to gather some of the best young jazz musicians from Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, made its debut in the fall of 1999 at Chet Baker, a famed club in Bologna, where it performed twice a month for an entire season. Around Tamburini – a musician able to combine great talent and professionalism with an uncommon humanity – a harmonious and homogeneous group of musicians was thus born and it included some young talents who grew up musically and had their first significant experience within the orchestra.
The following years the Reunion Big Band performed at plenty of Italian festivals, theaters and clubs; after a long period of inactivity, it finally reunited in the summer of 2012 to accompany the legendary vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater at Narni Black Festival. That concert played an important role in the life of the orchestra and encouraged it to resume its activity under the baton of the trumpeter from Cesena; after his death, he was succeeded by his friend and trombonist Roberto Rossi.
Besides reinterpreting the great classics of American orchestral jazz with original arrangements, with both a swing taste and a modern savor, the big band never failed to include compositions by the leader which today are the material the orchestra signs its record debut and re its late lamented leader. The ten wonderful tracks chosen for this album – all composed by Marco Tamburini – the brilliant arrangements they feature, the wonderful solos played by the orchestra musicians as well as by relevant guests like Pietro Tonolo, Fabrizio Bosso (their solos in Bossa to Criss are magnificent) and Marcello Tonolo (with Roberto Rossi he puts his seal to Eduard), are the best way to pay a tribute to Marco, appreciate his music and thank him for his immense contribution to Italian jazz. It’s worth pointing out the poignant theme of the title–track, one of Marco’s last compositions and the perfect synthesis of his human and musical feelings.
