My 1st disc matrix is DIDX-032924 (the last 3 numbers are mirrored) printed backwards.. A variant perhaps?

Can a CD/SACD player read it?
A bunch of these tracks play on Tom Petty Radio..and I 2nd, or 3rd...this needs a vinyl book/box set release. Like Live Anthology, American Treasure, Wildflowers+ -
Mind blowing material here! This badly deserves a very high quality vinyl release. We’re left to enjoy what we have until then. The CDs are unfortunately pretty compressed although the HDCD layer sounds pretty good on my Denon player. The material though and is stunning and an absolute must for any Petty fan!

Geez ... its hard to believe that “Playback” from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers came out in 1995, there has been so much music from Tom since then that he’s probably due for another boxed set for sure.
Often it’s easy to say that if you have all of the albums, then you don’t need a boxed set, or that if you have the boxed set, you don’t need the albums ... either way, that’s not the case with “Playback.” If you are not familiar with Tom Petty or have missed sections of his musical history, this is a righteous addition to your collection. If you are familiar with Tom Petty and have all of his releases, you are going to find a wealth of musical information on this release, not to mention a sweet book, six discs, and a back stage [and yes, the is real, I know, I have one from the actual show ... though these es only existed in the first edition of “Playback”].
The music has been laid down in chronological order for the most part, with the “Out Takes” and “B Sides” showing up on discs five and six. I have never really been a fan of out takes and unfinished pieces of music, they seem to be there for no real reason to me ... most of the time I can barely get through them once, yet alone play them as a body of work. I often wish artists would just let this stuff sit on the shelves. There was a reason that these songs never found their way onto an album ... and when presented on a boxed set, they just take away from space that could have been devoted to actual material which was originally released. Again, this could just be me, but with a boxed set I expect to get all of the released material, not just a compilation of what Tom thinks I will enjoy best. In the same breath, I will say that there was much care taken in the selection of the songs for this set, all of the material you want, the best of his best, can be found in this package. Any way you want to look at it, or should I say listen to it, there is more then enough good material here to hold your attention and spark your ears for a long time.
As for the recording and sound quality ... Tom and The Heartbreakers have gone back and amazingly cleaned things up [, Tom put out his first album in 1976], releasing these tracks on the HDCD format, and be sure, if you are listening with good speakers, you are going to hear the difference.
You all know the music being presented here by heart, it’s been on the air waves forever, Tom’s songs have become the fabric and soundtrack to many of our lives ... so what must concern you is this boxed set as a body of work. I would suggest scoring this material because it will fill in some gaps, add some quality songs that you have never had the privilege to hear before, and is a fine presentation and overview of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers.
If I may take a moment here to suggest that you watch the four hour documentary on Tom Petty, by Peter Bogdonovich, called “Runnin’ Down A Dream” ... now that is more then worth your while, and will have you playing Tom’s material for the next two weeks non stop.
