For those looking for a great pressing, I have an F23 side one and an F39 side two. This is one of the best sounding vinyls I own, so keep an eye out for these matrix numbers.

I believe that Ram, along with Tug of War, represents McCartney's finest work. There are many excellent songs here. I don't know how anyone can even think that Lennon's Imagine "slays" this. Here you've got an outstanding rock & roll album (that has aged very well) compared to one of the most pretentious records ever made. No contest.
Ram opens with "Too Many People," a stab at Lennon, but just a great song no matter what. I love the lyric "too many reaching for a piece of cake!" Humour and pop excellence are how I'd describe "3 Legs." Just great. "Ram On" and "Dear Boy" are a couple Beatlesque songs -- simply awesome. Then there's the classic "Uncle Albert" which is still great. More great songs follow. My only caution might be that there are just too many good songs here to consume in one listening. It might be best to split it up. But don't forget to hear "Monkberry Moon Delight," a huge psycho rocker! -
Edited 14 years agoThe strongest of all of McCartney's solo material, despite containing several of his usual throw-away songs. The Back Seat of My Car is simply epic, one of the grandest and most impressive of all his solo works and Dear Boy is astonishingly beautiful, no doubt inspired by Brian Wilson and almost as ingenious in its densely layered vocal harmonies. This record was unfairly lambasted at the time of release (ittedly, it was issued around the same time as Lennon's Imagine, which slays this) but in hindsight Band on the Run is the only McCartney solo LP that really gives this a run for it's money as far as overall consistency goes.
