Schoolboy Q – Crash Talk

Short, Sweet, & Stressful. "CrasH Talk" has been worth the wait and another worthy addition in Black Hiiipy's storied discography. The tale is that of a successful man, unsatisfied and still dealing with detaching from the poisons that have helped him get to where he is.
Cudi gets the album-stealing verse on "Dangerous", and yes, I am glad that Travi$ Scott stood in for Kendrick on "Chopstix" - needed a follow up to "Rodeo"'s "OK Alright". And if we're talking tying loose-ends in Q's catalogue then the "Boom" Prhyme sample on "CrasH" is good enough to call it a sequel to Prhyme's album sleeper "Underground Kings" - though written in a completely different vein than that of a posse cut , featuring some of the most paranoid voices from the tortured mind of Q.
Believe me as a man who ran with crips in my youth, I can understand the words on "CrasH" and "Tales" (one of the most haunting instrumentals I have ever heard) more than most spotify playlist listeners. Nothing can be more evident of this than "Black Folk"'s "wasted" sample which I view as a perception of pity that I hold equivalent to Q's of the inhabitants of the 50's area. Though he was on Figg, I was in Crenshaw.
The female-centric tracks like "Drunk" show Q still has not lost his taste , nor has 6lack stopped his win-streak with rapper collaborations. And "Lies" is honest , ironically, especially from the viewpoint of how female's really thrive off of dishonesty, from my experience in LA. The 400 crew doesn't even sound bad on this, much more mature, that I can hardly believe these are the same folks that polluted the LA airwaves with "Toot It and Boot It". The chirp sample on that record and the inebriated female on the latter just sell the meaning of each of the records more and show just how annoying courtship can be.
And now actually having seen $5000 in my own bank "5200" doesnt sound too bad to a person like me who ittedly, is not always entertained with the street bangers of late. "Floating" (the best of 21 since his collab with Cole and the tapes with Boomin of course), "Numb Numb Juice", "Chopstix", and "Lies" are the best examples that Uncle Q can show the new school how it's done. Hell, even Lil Baby pays homage on "Water". In a culture where the O.G.'s are constantly disrespected (check "Die Wit Em" - classic mixtape Q right there showing this young man deserves the elder status he is more than elligible for as described in so many words on the album closer "Attention"), that means a lot.
"CrasH Talk" : the exhibition of a true MC that can be high energy on a track, spill his soul, and still sell a party jam.
