Edited 3 years agoI acquired a new/sealed copy of this pressing, still in the shrink wrap. This issue has neither the "The Cars Candy-O" hype sticker on the vinyl nor is it printed on the front jacket. "The Cars Candy-O" appears only on the jacket spine. My copy has a "Record Bar $3.99 RB 4" sticker on the shrink, top right. The "Record Bar" is a now-defunct chain retailer that operated from the 1960s until the late 1980s. The $3.99 Record Bar price sticker is consistent with new LP prices in 1979 - by the early 1980s, new LP prices rose to around $5.
This pressing pretty clearly appears to have been pressed at the same time as this 1979 pressing - https://discogs.versitio.com/release/16162816-The-Cars-Candy-O - as the unique labels are identical, with a slightly different dead wax matrix. Sides 1 & 2 each have a "Sterling" stamper in the dead wax. This pressing is one of a few 1979 Candy-O issues pressed with a red/black Elecktra label, not the more common all-red Candy-O label. Discogs should sync these two releases, as it does appear they were pressed and released in tandem in 1979.
The only odd feature about this pressing is the matte paper inner sleeve with an "Elektra" red/black/white company inner, the design of which mimics the red/black/white record label. The inner is not the glossy paper inner with the band photo/track list/lyrics as shown with most pressings here.
The sound on this pressing is fantastic, super quiet vinyl, no clicks, pops or static - a very enjoyable listen with crisp, clear, engaging sound. Don't hesitate if you find an inexpensive copy of this pressing.
