It's a complete metal masterpiece. Some of the best metal has to offer. Even at its worse Holy Diver is one of if not the best debut album, especially for heavy metal.
-
Anyone know if the 2021 and 2022 (remastered) are different masterings, or just regional? (not talking about the 2022 remix)
-
which version of the album is best sounding? the original 83 master? the 2016 remaster? the 2022 remaster? the 2022 remixed master by Joe Barresi?

Edited 2 years agoDio left Sabbath, assembled his own band, and released this masterpiece the following year. This album is as good as it gets; a rockin' debut from a metal god.
Highlights include "Holy Diver", "Rainbow in the Dark", and "Stand Up And Shout". Vinny Appice Is tearing it up on drums with some high voltage beats and fills. And this is when the world first heard Vivian Campbell, a young Irish phenom. Viv injects life into the songs with catchy riffs and brief but shred-worthy solos. Yes, Dio should have paid them more money.
The audio here is marvelous. There is no muddiness, scooped mids nor booming bass issues often found in similar records. I've been studying '80s metal albums to understand why some sound bad and some sound good. Here, all the top and bottom freqs are present, but low mids are notched out and upper mids are emphasized slightly. This allows Dio's voice to punch right through without competing with guitar frequencies. The songs are heavy, but do not sound cluttered at all.
Fantastic sounding pressing. Groove echo/ghosting just before Rainbow, but whatcha gonna do?
This is a must-have album. Five stars.
