Edited 2 months agoWhat more can I say about Lenny's 2018 studio release on here that hasn't already been said by other reviewers in one form or another? The man came out with his best studio effort since 2011's 'Black and White America' (Target Deluxe version to be more specific) and pretty much solidified his status as one of the greatest American music artists of our time. There's a little something for everyone on 'Raise Vibration', from the '90s rock-influenced opener "We Can Get It All Together" to intriguing '80s-era soundscapes (hit single "Low", "Who Really Are The Monsters?", and "I'll Always Be Inside Your Soul") to straight-up 'old school' funk and soul (hit single "It's Enough", "The Majesty Of Love", and "Ride") to emotionally-charged ballads ("Here To Love" and "Johnny Cash") to sunny '70s-styled pop rock (hit single "5 More Days 'Til Summer") to powerful bluesy psychedelica (title track) to even a gripping Prince-inspired number ("Gold Dust").
Replay value on this release is so high it's already become one of my primary "go-to" Lenny albums, especially with profoundly deep spiritual themes running throughout. '5' (1999 Re-release) is still tops on my personal list as far as his work goes in general, but 'Raise Vibration' could very well end up taking that spot in due time. I truly felt this one should've finally netted Kravitz that elusive Grammy for 'Pop Album Of The Year' and in this day and age, I'd say it's an honor that's still long overdue for him. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, but make sure to go binge buying for the rest of his albums after getting this one. Be wary of 2001's 'Lenny' and 2004's 'Baptism', though. Those were made around the time when Lenny was starting to become a victim of his own success and might not be to everyone's liking. Just giving you all a heads-up there!
