Bought my copy brand new and despite wonderful appearance and sound, my copy has some nasty ticks caused by some deep scratches.
Sadly, I couldn't get a replacement and am now on the hunt for a new copy.
Overall, the mastering isn't bad, but it was abit noisey in places during the instrumental tunes....it may have just been my copy, but otherwise I'd suggest it for any Bowie collector. -
Edited 3 years agoThis is a great compilation, pulling together a selection of tracks from the classic Low and “Heroes” albums. I’ve never heard the original promo album but this sounds great. I’m always a bit cautious when it comes to white vinyl records but this one ticks all the boxes : nice and quiet, no ugly pops or clicks or whooshing sounds, just 11 fantastic tracks from my favourite Bowie era. As far as I can tell they’re all the same versions of the album tracks. You’ve got 4 instrumentals (Providing you call V2 Schneider an instrumental) and the rest are songs. No singles either so there’s a nice balance of “lesser known” tracks.
The simple design of the sleeve is very effective and you get a single sheet insert inside with a photo of Bowie in Berlin (?) + dog; and the credits and track-listing on the reverse.
Not an essential release but still nice to have in the ever-expanding Bowie collection. One I can see me digging out when I want to listen to some 1977 Bowie but want something different to the two parent albums. If you’re a Bowie fan and you fancy something a bit different but that is also very listenable then I’d recommend this whole-heartedly.
You don’t get a poly lined inner sleeve BTW just in case that’s something that’s important to you. -

My copy plays great! It's essential Bowie listening, none of the hits but this record holds up and gets better with each listen.

The problem at the beginning of B2 ("Speed of Life") is most likely a turntable/set-up issue for those who have posted here. I never had any issues with the record (which is a fine selection of Berlin-era tracks as others have said) until last night when I was DJing at a venue where the SL-1200s had not been set up correctly and the record skipped during B2 a couple of times. Fixed the anti-skating on the venue's decks, which resolved the skipping issue, and then played it back on my properly set up home system and it sounds just fine (as it always has done).

The record reproduction play quality on this RSD Ltd white vinyl edition is atrocious. From a company as well equipped as Parlophone to produce vinyl records at lets it it, quite expensive prices is diabolical and everyone who has a copy should be entitled to their money back. My copy for a new record plays like someone is frying eggs in the background on a very high heat. “BOWIE NOW” there’s a thought might just set my copy on fire. Do not buy.

FWIW, I've been using an AT120 for a long time as a table, so thats what I saw it skipping on a few years ago. dont think ive spun it since.

My copy skipped in three or four spots at the beginning of side B, but after repeated plays, the skipping has stopped. This leads me to believe that it was just dirty.
