After multiple listens and reading the comments about this album, I don't understand the complaints on sound quality. To be fair, I have only listened to this album digitally via streaming and with this remastered cd, so maybe the old vinyl pressings just sounded like shit? If that is truly the case then this 2 cd set is an excellent remaster job, because i think it's fantastic sounding. The album definitely has an interesting mix, which may not be for everyone i assume. Someone mentioned this album's production giving them a migraine, and i just can't fathom that. I love where the emphases are placed on instruments at specific moments throughout the record. The bass is adequately powerful when it needs to hold down the tempo and really allows the listener to fall into a trance with the tasteful use of its repetition. Wyatt's kit isn't too powerful, but why would it need to be, his fills are light but audible when needed, but don't distract. Additionally, keys and effects are always in the right place as well.
Yeah it's not the most crisp or technically sound recording, but it serves the music well. So as previously stated, my conclusion is that either this remaster is a miracle job, or the original pressings and recording isn't actually as poor as some say.
