Edited 13 days agoThe album is fine, it just needs time. The sound is great, in the second track the bass is really powerful, the details are crystal, I can't hear any distortion even with the elliptical tip, I have no comparison with anything (just heard a stream years ago). The pressing is fine (I have one inaudible flaw there), it plays clean. I recommend it.
Played on:
Technics SL-100C, Audio Technica VM-95C/E/ML (depending on record condition and taste), Rega Fono Mini A2D MK2, Technics SU-G700M2, Yamaha NS-777 -
Edited 21 days agoI confirm that there are copies whose sound is recorded in mono. I got this record.
I returned this copy back. Perhaps in vain. This copy may become very expensive in the future. -
Either my hearing is shot or this album is definitely stereo.. got no idea why some say it’s mono.. mine aint.

To sum it up - What a pile of crap!
-------------------------------------------------------
'Elysium' seems to be an album that really divides Pet Shop Boys fans, but I'm a huge er of it. Love the melancholy tones in the first two songs and think the song writing is really good (granted, not as good as 'Fundamental', but still fab).
When I got this pressing when it came out, I was quite frankly appalled. From new, every single track sounded "wibbly and distorted" and it made the track A1 ('Leaving') near unbearable, especially considering the sibilance coming from Neil's voice was really bad.
Honestly I'm in shock at how bad this pressing is. Parlophone are usually really good with their vinyl pressings (their Bowie reissues are stupid good too) but this. What the Hell happened here Parlophone? Sibilance, distortion and just bad quality overall. Honestly when a record makes me want to listen to an album on YouTube instead, that shows how truly awful the pressing is.
I am giving this pressing 1* though. While the quality of the record itself is absolutely bloody abysmal, the quality of the sleeve and the glossy finish are really damn nice.
Such a shame. -
