I received two copies of this, and they both wield the same issues.
The most damning issue comes from the second track, "Night Streets / Sandy And Jeffrey". The crescendo, aka the musical cue where Laura Dern's character emerged from the shadows, made clipping noise and during the loudest use of wind instruments, the audio peaks so much that there's static noise emerging. It's really distracting, and seems to affect only on that track for some reason. The copies of the LP exhibits the same cheapness in material: the center hole is cut so poorly that the plastic pieces stick out from the inner portion of the label, and my first copy's center hole was cut so narrow, it can barely fit a spindle; the labels themselves are also so thin that there's ring tears. I suppose with a vinyl reissue that's less than $20, you get what you paid for, but I still find this to be a disappointment. Not the soundtrack itself, just the assembly of the format.
Which is unfortunate, because otherwise, the LP is largely quiet on the surface noise and the songs are mixed pretty well. I really enjoy Badalamenti's film score, and wanted something better from this reissue. If nothing else, at least I wise enough to not buy the blue variant from Newbury Comics if this is gonna be the result. -
Music on this thing is really quiet on moments so I can say I can hear an occasional soft pop or a click, but nothing major, and nothing "in your face". Worth buying, good press.
