I didn't pay much attention to Erasure until 'Chorus' came along. Suddenly, it all started to make more sense. "Chorus" shines all the way, and at the same time marks a fresh start for them earlier in the 90s, just as it is a slight return to Vince Clarke's earlier 80s blueprint - most notably a pleasant reminder of Yazoo ("Breath Of Life", for one, pulsating in the direction of "Goodbye 70s"). If there ever was a third album penned under Yazoo's name, this is the closest it would have got the other side of "You And me Both". Of course, this didn't harm what Erasure already accomplished with a number of impressive studio albums under their belt prior to "Chorus" - the title song that, while just fresh from release and up the charts at the time, already sounded as if been a hit for years... such was its sweet deception.

Finely balanced uptempo songs and ballads, Erasure once again delivered, keeping the fun, the kitsch and the melodrama intact. Simply put, 'Chorus' sounds like a greatest-hits technology finesse, with a whole palette of moods applied to it. In the years to come it won't lose one bit of its timeless beauty.
