Although I never cared for the title track, I like the remainder of the album very much. Solely Written & Produced by Ashford & Simpson, and including a lot of their go-to studio musicians of the time--for me, this ranks 2nd regarding of Disco-tinged material albums--being edged out by her CHIC album from 1980 IMO. -

This album saw Diana reunited with producers Ashford & Simpson who had produced her first couple of solo albums released at the beginning of the decade. The Boss would prove to be a massive hit on the Disco scene. Miss Ross was of course a massive Gay Icon as well as one of the top 3 female artists in the world at this time. The disco crowd went wild and the entire album sat atop the Billboard disco chart for over a month in late summer. The album still sounds great today and has a cohesion that most of her output lacks due to the strict control by A&S -
This might be Diana Ross’ best solo album. Production by Ashford & Simpson is stellar. ‘The Boss’ presented here in 180 gram red vinyl simply shines. I didn’t have this vinyl and the price was right. Packaging was nice, except for the paper inner sleeve. Failure to use a polyethylene lined sleeve caused static upon initial spin. Overall, this edition of ‘The Boss’ doesn’t sound remastered. Decent sound resulted after I cleaned the vinyl with anti static spray and used a proper inner sleeve for storage

This 24 Bit (or 20 Bit according to the sticker on my copy) remastered disc sounds fantastic. Diana's disco album from the zenith of the disco era- summer 1979- when the entire album was listed at No1 on the Billboard Disco Action charts for 4 weeks. Written and produced by Ashford and Simpson. A cohesive project considered to be one of Diana's best 70s albums. A true classic of the period, evocative of nights at Studio 54. The title track, I Ain't Been Licked & No One Gets The Prize are the standout floor-fillers. A remix of The Boss returned Diana to the top of the Billboard Dance Chart in 2019, 40 years later!

verry good disco/ soul music for 1979 it is a little strange how there is some slow music with disco songs which does ruin it a little but it is still a good album to get you moving 9/10 -

One of Motown's leading giants' finest full-lengths, The Boss, is such a classic. I often ponder over two things regarding Miss Ross' solo career: 1.) how she would've stayed afloat without the effortless songwriting and production mindsets of Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, and 2.) what the trajectory of the middle phase of her career would've been had this filler-free, career-rebounding album never came to fruition. One fact that will always remain true: Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson were truly gifted, in that they always centered on an artist's strengths, rather than solely patching up their weaknesses. For Diana, they laser-beamed her larger-than-life exuberance, revamped her pop gusto with an efficient disco sensibility, and wrote a body of dramatic compositions that revolved around independence, resilience, and sensuality. Altogether, it brought her back to the top. -
Words can not describe how bad this recording is . The worst mastering job i have ever heard . They took Diana's album and destroyed it . This is for the culture factory version .
