Mariah Carey – Music Box

Everyone was correct. The disc is NOT made in Japan. They just added the OBI strip and two pieces of paper. One resembles the back cover of the rerelease version and the other piece paper is the lyrics in Japanese. I wished I read the comment before I bought it. I already have the rerelease version, the MVP version (which is the superior version … IMO) and the box set version. This is my favorite album of hers.

The DVD is locked for region 2. If you live in the US, you have to have a multi region player. Unfortunately, this is a direct transfer from the old DVD so the picture is not good. Maybe that’s why it’s not a blu ray. Otherwise the packaging is really nice. It’s for collector only since you can get the CD in the US without the DVD .

poor pressing, lots of cracking. LP cleaned several times. But unfortunately it doesn't help anything. Shame, expected more from Sony.

Even though this album has an average DR 10 and the year 1994 is the year when the Loudness War starts to start more and more and one has to be careful when buying CDs from this year, this album sounds great to my ears and the Hero song sounds fantastic. I would say that the light, pleasant compression here is still interesting and okay and I have no problem with it, unfortunately it mostly just got worse.

The packaging is great although kinda flimsy! I am kinda sad my first record came with a scratch right on one of my favorite tracks “music box”, that said the records sound great! Mariah is hitting it out of the park with her recent vinyl editions!
(Edit: I just noticed none of my discs are truly black, all of them have some weird dark gray marbling)

the packaging is really nice, whilst it is quite flimsy it’s made from nice materials and the cover has spot gloss for all those wavy lines - the window on the front cover to reveal the full album photo inside is nice! the regular album sounds better than my standard black 2020 reissue but is still REALLY quiet - the rest of the discs sound absolutely superb! the fold out poster is huge, it’s just a shame the lyrics are on there and not the sleeves or booklet.

my only downside is the records were literally stuck in the sleeves, i spent at least 5 minutes a time trying to get them out without ripping the inner sleeves.

I have now got my own copy so I can give a detailed update.
This is a 2020 remastered Made in the EU copy with very thin Japanese sleeve and a less than ordinary OBI.
Unfortunately definitely not a collectible edition. I have no wonder why it was initially not for selling overseas in most Japanese websites and once it was released, they all allowed shipping overseas.
I will sell my copy.

Not really a fan of the packaging. It’s flimsy. However I was taken aback by the quality of the recording. It’s great. There is a lot of depth. The bass is very present. Mariah’s vocals are very well recorded.

After reading the comments here about the sound quality I was concerned. It’s not superb but it’s much better than the recent reissues. I haven’t heard the og but this actually sounds better than my japanese 1st press cd.

That is quite a feat. I agree the records are dirty. You would expect that from gz. Overall happy customer.

this is a very nice pressing although I really had to pump up the volume and it has surface noise mainly between the tracks. the problem with this pressing is that it's really dirty, there are lots of white particles from the paper sleeve and one of them was causing a loud pop right on the huge 'the way' note in hero so that's crazy. I managed to get it off the vinyl and the pop is gone so I guess you really need to wash it thoroughly.
