There are several unique variations of the UK & Europe double CD release with only minor differences:
*Lifeforms Version 1 has "Made in the UK" on discs, "Printed in the UK" on back cover, rights societies "BIEM/MS" on discs and price code "PM 518" on discs and back cover;
*Lifeforms Version 2 has "Made in the UK" on discs, "Printed in the UK" on back cover, rights societies "BIEM/MS" on discs and price code "PM 548" on back cover (code on discs is unknown);
*Lifeforms Version 3 has "Made in Holland" on discs, "Printed in Holland" on back cover, rights societies "BIEM/STEMRA" on discs and price code "PM 518" on discs and back cover;

In 1994, Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans continued to move along the trajectory established on their maiden LP, 1992’ s ‘Accelerator’ in the spacey, experimental 1994 follow-up ‘Lifeforms’. As well as being attuned to the business of getting their singles well into the charts – the title track was one of four in the Top 20 – this dance duo were practitioners of albums-as-journeys (two discs totalling 19 tracks here), with synths and pads energetically deployed in pursuit of this goal. I recall hearing this piece at sunset on a mountain, as part of a wider playlist with an abiding music-and-nature atmosphere; at the end of the 92-minute ‘Lifeforms’, one feels that Cobain and Dougans’ mission is complete, their vision exhausted. -
A great pressing of a wonderful album. It sounds better than both the 1994 CD and the 1994 2xLP editions.
I got a copy in a HMV shop reduced to £29.99 at the end of January 2025. The HMV shop had another copy for the same price and I saw 2 copies at the same reduced price in another HMV shop.
Highly recommended. -
Beautiful pressing of a beautiful album .I'm very happy with this . Why can't all vinyl sound this good . Tad bit of a warp, but who cares .

Edited 4 months agoThis is the super rare original Gold Disc SAE Master Recording provided to Astralwerks prior to official release in 1994. This was gifted to me from DJ Reese, head of A&R at Astralwerks in NY. This was used to press the domestic release on Astralwerks. The other disc 2 of 2 he misplaced.
The disc has a few mis-spellings. A missing"The" in the artist title is referenced as: Future Sound Of London instead. The album title is "Lifeform" instead of the correct Lifeforms. This must have been a mistake by SAE Mastering.
A few markings were made on a few tracks:
1.Cascade /
3. Flak /
6. Lifeforms /
7. Eggshell /
8. Among Myselves /
These were from the mastering studio. Not sure what they signify. -
Spiritual successor to Oxygene, lovely pressing. Flat, Silent, and I think the sound overall and the separation is great. Packaging on the other hand, is crap. Card is thin, printing is rubbish and inner sleeves are thin paper. Such an amazing album deserves at least poly lined sleeves? I paid £29 in HMV sale, but if I'd paid full price, would have felt a bit cheated. But, the important thing is, it sounds great!

This pressing sounds unbelievable. Pristine, quiet, full. Glad I waited so many years to buy a copy on vinyl. Glad this one came along at the right time. -
Just listened to both this and the 2018 reissue and must say that this 'Optimal' job is significantly better than the previous one in of the quality control of the press. Surface noise, present in certain amount on all sides of the 2018 reissue, is non-existent on this one, at least on my copy. Also, not a trace of pops and clicks, which were rather annoying on a 2018 release. Sound wise, it's the same, very well mastered material, so there's no difference between the two. -
I used to have the cd but cant where i kept it so i bought this record brand new . The sound quality is indeed well mastered . Great dynamics and almost silent vinyl. Lifeforms is one of my favorite album from fsol . They way they create that sound back then is immaculate . -
Anyone know is this was also pressed at optimal like the 2018 repress?
