I've had a chat with Angie regarding this song, and it really changed the way I listened to it. House music was still a pretty new concept to her at the time (especially the more repetitive stuff), and she literally told me her "heart wasn't in it" as around the same time she was in a band called "The Doves", recording a song called "Beaten Up In Love Again" which is really soulful and still one of her favourite songs. But unfortunately, the album wasn't a massive success, and by the time "Took My Love" was released, she was blending her signature style with the house beats, and it all took off from there! She basically breathes house music now.
Whether or not you think the song's repetitive, one thing's for sure, Angie definitely thinks so. That's why she does loads of improv and ad-libbing when performing it live - she said it would get extremely boring if she did the song exactly as-is! -

Ugh...probably the most overrated dance record of the 90's. It never goes anywhere...a dull-as-dishwater rhythm track, the same alternating 2-note pattern and couple short lines of vocal samples repeating over and over and over and over (plus that god awful super over-sampled "Yo DJ Pump This Party!" which just adds to the banality).
"Took My Love" was infinitely better. At least it had a more interesting & danceable rhythm track, and a good set of real vocals instead of just a couple lines of samples ones. -

Todd Terry's remix of this is pretty much exactly the same as his remix of Cajmere - Brighter Days. Todd himself its to just using the same elements in 5 or 6 different remixes.
Bizarre Inc. actually wanted Jocelyn Brown to do the vocal but she refused. They then brought in Yvonne Yanney, but for some reason she didn't do it. Angie Brown was brought in instead. Apparently the Bizarre Inc. people are a bit miffed with Angie Brown as she is going round performing as Bizarre Inc. when really it is only her. -

This single brought two massive hits from Bizarre Inc. in 1992: the Quadrant Mix for "Playing With Knives", a huge hardcore tune, and the house featured by the vocals of Angie Brown, "I'm Gonna Get You". Sampling the acappella from "Jocelyn Brown - Love Is Gonna Get You", this tune brings the typical house approach of the beginning of the nineties to the soulful spirit of the original tune. "Why waste your time? You know you're gonna be mine" and "I'm gonna get you baby - I'm gonna get you yes I am!" are the main samples used on this charming house, largely played at that time...
