This thing RIPS I have a lower grade copy with some crackle and it still blows your hair back. Can’t imagine there being a better sounding copy. -
Edited 17 days agoGinger Baker, I'm not a fan.at all of him, The Cream, or his well documented self destruction. But let's keep this to music, this is an exceptionally good piece of work.
Pressing is fantastic.
Highly Recommend. -
I am not a huge fan of Ginger Baker but this is maybe the most amazing thing I've heard him do, his drumming is absolutely on point and just crazy out of control on every track on here. It's an intense performance, and Fela is in spectacular form, amazing sax, great vocals, and the band are tight. So many layers of drums it sounds like they have 12 drummers playing at once! David Bowie dreams of being in this show.

This is a superb recording/pressing. Hard to believe it was taken from a live gig in ‘72. On a par with ‘Webster Lewis at Club7’ from the same year. Ginger Baker must have been gobsmacked when he saw Tony Allen playing drums. -

My copy has the labels on the wrong sides of the record. Not sure if that's just my copy or more common. -

I just bought this same copy today, which was sealed. I compared it to a video of an original pressing and mine is in stereo, not mono, and seems fine. It sounds like it’s not missing any instruments, as stated in the other reviews. It actually is a really nice pressing. It was played on my VPI Scout turntable, Musical Fidelity A1 class A amplifier and Zu Audio speakers. -

Cor blimey geez! This sounds amazing! Crispy crisp crisp. Ye Ye De Smell is mighty mad. Full trip. W I D E. Thick full fat n heavy. The horns so sharp the drums intense. Whole album sounds Tipety topety notchy! Big. -

I was OK with the pops & clicks (it's not a quiet record), but then the needle hit the big chunk of excess vinyl stuck to side B. Realized too late that this was a Rainbo pressing, there's a reason they have the reputation that they do. Too bad, because Fela & band + Ginger Baker + Abbey Road = Magic.
Will have to try another pressing. -
I have now compared this pressing with the 1st UK pressing Fela Kuti And Africa 70 With Ginger Baker - Live!. The 50th Anniversary pressing is a bit finer in the treble, there is almost no background noise, BUT the dynamic and the drums are incomparably better on the UK pressing. if you have the chance an original one. Get the UK pressing in good condition (mine is VG+ and it crackles a bit at the beginning when the announcement is made, but I would NEVER give this version away) then buy the UK - the 50th is a good compromise.
Side C sometimes crackles, especially at the beginning, even after washing - I also saw a press error (wavy) after about 2 minutes, but no restrictions in of sound. Still, I don't regret the purchase because the solo on the C side is fantastic.
