Funkadelic – One Nation Under A Groove

Sounds OK. A bit too clean and compressed instrumentation. Nice jacket.

Can't say with any certainty that this 2023 UK Charly release is the definitive edition to own, but I can say with absolute certainty that it's everything I hoped for and more. Beautiful gatefold package, the original artwork is reproduced in fine detail, there's a four page insert with liner notes, both records are housed in cardstock printed inner sleeves, and the vinyl sounds excellent. There's loads of oomph to the low end, drums and bass are full and rich, horns, guitars and vocals are crisp and punchy, and the soundstage is pleasingly in-your-face, very lively and robust. Note that this reissue contains a second LP with the three songs from the original bonus record that came with first pressings, and also adds the eleven-minute "One Nation Under A Groove (Disco Mix)". Not sure if this was sourced from the original tapes, but on the OBI strip it states, "Original Funkadelic recordings courtesy of Nene Montes and Tercer Mundo Inc." All I know is it sounds really nice. My copy was purchased new and all four sides play beautifully, with no noticeable surface noise. Five funky stars and a happy face.

Am I the only one who thinks that the artwork is the best on this album? I bought the album together with James Brown's „Black Caesar“ on a flea market yesterday and where Brown and Wesley are tight funky this band collective sounds insignificant to me.

I bought this at a local record store here in Copenhagen and thought "Maggot brain? Nice!" Only just realising I bought one of the two 7inches, side 3 and 4 - not side 1 and 2 - and definitely not the album. Hahahah, facepalm emoji :)

Just picked this Charly UK reissue up. Previously owned the album on CD (early 2000s). Have NEVER had the pleasure of owning this on vinyl, so i cant compare to other pressings. But as it spins right now, my copy sounds really good!!! Also, the packaging is top-notch, and let’s Pedro Bell’s artistry shine!!!

Not my favourite album musically or sonically. The other Charly 2023 rereleases sound a fair bit better. This is sibilant and almost tinny at times.

Listening on Grado headphones and I think fried ice cream is a reality!

Any more information on this pressing? I saw a repress in Vancouver Canada. It had an obistrip that says “remastered by Pete Reynolds”. I’d love to know how this remaster holds up and what the source material was to see if I should get this or an older pressing.

This is a really good reissue. I have an original copy and this stands up well against it. Maybe less hot/ loud but the detailing is great and overall balance between vocals and instruments are well done. Not sure of the tape source but worth getting if you don’t own. One demerit for the polyethylene cover - toss it. Otherwise packaging is superb.
