Blondie – Heart Of Glass

My copy must be a mispressing, because I had the vocal versions on both sides even though it stated instrumental on the B side.

Great sounding single. Old uk 12” singles are pretty much always great.

The sleeve shown here was not in use until 1983.

I don't know who the tasteless idiot was that thought it was a good idea to loop that tedious refrain with the male backing singers going "naa na na, na na na na na na na na na, naa na na" round and round and round ad nauseam. It's the worst part of the song and yet it seems to be the repeated fadeout on the most commonly heard versions. The best version is the one with the extended spacey synth instrumental outro.

One of most iconic recordings of the 70s. New Wave/Punk/Disco/Electronica- it fused elements of these cross genres to create what was at the time a fairly unique sound. The record was massive. The 12" does have beefed up bass but not to the point of distortion when played at volume. It has terrific percussive and electronic elements too.

With so many variants of ‘Heart of Glass,’ this USA (Picture Sleeve) version with 3.22 Radio Edit appears to me to be the definitive one, primarily because the sleeve appears to have been designed to show off what was being sold, Debbie in the “video” dress on the front, but importantly - acknowledging they are a band on the back cover. Even the U.K. version (video still from Presence, dear) bears little resemblance to the actual reality of this really groundbreaking release.
