Highly overlooked and underrated Funk monster. A must for anyone who is a fan of the genre. Pressing is excellent. -
Edited one year agoRight before "The New Birth" put "The Nite-Liters" name on the shelf for good, the group cranked out one last album in "A-Nal-Y-Sis"....I'm not so sure if it was a swan song for people back then who did love "The Nite-Liters" by themselves, but as I look at it, I felt like it would had been....
At this time, "The New Birth" were really gaining ground, so this album came in right on time....
The album starts on a extreme high note with the Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel, "Serenade For A Jive Turkey" (written by Drummer, "Robin Russell")....This t is just IT!!!!!!! It was a "Funk Explosion" and the perfect going away present....
"Anything Goes" (2nd Crown Jewel) is deep subtle "Funk", with outstanding "Dub Vocals" by their now core Vocalists in "Allen Frey", "Londee 'Loren' Wiggins", and "The Wilson Brothers, Melvin & Leslie"....
"The Happy Hooker (Instrumental)" and "Craaaashing", are pretty good ts, just not in the class of the last two songs....
"Damn", the 3rd Crown Jewel, is just how it is described, and a straight to the point jam....
The next Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Crown Jewel, "Drumology" is Drumming 101, with Drummer "Robin Russell" giving us straight lessons!!!!!!
The 5th Crown Jewel, "Excuse Me While I Do My Thing", once again has "Charles Hearndon" doing what he does best, giving us the business on Guitar...
The last song ever on Record by the group is the 6th Crown Jewel, "Pee-Foul"....This gave longtime member, Saxophonist "Austin Lander" some room to do his thing...
This was the official last album for "The Nite-Liters"...It was an incredible journey, but now it was really time to get down to business..."The New Birth", would finally take over...They may have stayed unsung, but they still put people in the music world on noticed...
With that being said, even though "RCA" gave them the promotional shaft, "The Nite-Liter" name would now be taken seriously as a real "Music Group" (I personally think that is so sad to say!!!!!!) -

The B side of the reissue contains a longer version of Happy Hooker than what is on the A side. It runs for about 1 minute beyond the fade-out of the A side version, and I believe it's previously unreleased.
Unfortunately Cowboy is shortened by about half a minute, so the breakdown section is missing. The track fades out part way into the guitar solo.
