Edited 2 years agoSilk is just the master! Like Todd Terry in the 90's, Steve bossed it on the early Chicago scene & remains highly underrated. 'Jack Your Body' broke out of the underground because it absolutely rocks any dance floor no matter what you know about dance music, it is infectious.
Commercial hit or not, one of the greatest dance tracks ever penned ♪ ♫ -

Ha I was freaking out trying to figure out what version I had. As I was comparing twin copies of this, I realized they switched the labels on one of my copies. (A label on Side B) that was a trip.

In the summer of 1986 I first heard "Jack Your Body" aged 15. This track instantly changed the way I bought records, looking for anything with the word "House" "Chicago" or "Jacking" written on them from there on.

Fantastic remix and probably one of the rare re-rubs that has done this classic some justice. Acid licks, juiced up bassline, 303 mayhem. Play it as loud as you can 'cause this is a masterpiece.

This track, although now gimmicky, proved to be the track that the British youth stood up and said 'Hell Yeah' to American Dance music. House music was widely regarded as a high energy 'gay scene' sound that had little relevance on dance charts, let alone the national chart. However Steve Silk Hurley completely smashed this with his release Jack Your Body, which is now a seminal release, a record which lauched the UK dance scene. It was cool for people to go out and 'jack' to music from the US, forging this important culture and Chicago / Detroit House and Techno. It should not be forgotten the brilliance of this release, it gave meaning to my life and launched a 1000 copies!
Jack Your Body indeed! May it live forever ;-) -
Edited 18 years agoI hearing it at my local record store and it blew me away.. It was a simple track but the "Jack, Jack, Jack your Body" sample killed it.. I later saw it on a video my cousin sent me from London.. had a Top of the Pops episode on the tape where Jack your Body was No.1 on the UK charts..I think it stayed there for like 8 weeks which back then was unheard of for an underground track to stay at No. 1 for so so long

Although this is truly a masterpiece of classic chicago house music, the Monty Remix is really bad.
It speeds up the tempo and tries to be more like techno rave music but in fact the arrangement is chaotic and the cool vibe of the original got lost.
