I can buying this and it only seems like a few years ago but it's over 13 now of course. It's a great set and essential for fans of Miles Davis and his amazing band.

Edited 7 months agoPressing quality is on par with other MOV Miles reissues - minimal surface noise, good dynamics, no non-fill or weird QC issues. Heavyweight packaging is an upgrade from the original 2011 issue, which squished all 5 discs into a thin slipcase, but the inclusion of a 1/2” cardboard filler is regrettable - why add shelf space? Package design feels a bit half assed in of layout, image quality and finer details compared to the phenomenal music (and pressing) inside.

Some days, this might be my favourite jazz release ever. Just sensational playing... -

This has to be one of the best jazz boxes ever. It's crazy good. Sonics also. Miles, Wayne, Herbie? Like a meteor. -

Amazing box set which I own on CD and vinyl. Dead quiet MOV vinyl. This is mind-blowing Miles Davis material at the top of his game. I feel lucky to have gotten one for $100. Don’t miss out on this, you’d better strike soon!! -

I found this to be a somewhat disappointing collection. That's at least partly (and maybe even completely) due to the flat sound; there's very little in the way of dynamics. It's not bad quality, but it IS dated quality. I'm guessing that some heavy cleanup was required to make it presentable. This is unfortunately, since this appears to be the only official live release from this band.
Also, there are only eight or nine different charts here, but they're all performed three times, so by the third disc, everything starts running together. In this regard, it's similar to the Seven Steps box set. This is not an indictment of the band. This is probably the greatest jazz ensemble that ever existed, and for proof just check out the 1965-68 Quintet box set; that is some of the most perfect jazz ever made. But the music on this set is not all that exciting. Now, if you're a student of jazz improvisation, then you will find a good amount here to study.
At this point, Sony/Columbia has probably released every single minute of studio and official concert recordings that Miles ever made. So to keep the cash flowing, they've moved on to lesser-known concerts and lower-quality recordings. Given that this is subtitled "Best of the Bootleg Volume 1," I'm sure we can expect yearly editions of similar music. Which of course isn't a bad thing!
