Santana – Santana

I have variant 2 and it is a good sounding as any US OG but the vinyl has less noise which seems to be a problem with US Columbia’s in general at that time. Find a clean Canada 1st and you are all set.

Bought brand new sealed from Amazon for 125 CAD. Record #1 is perfectly flat and well centered, while record #2 is slightly warped but well centered. Pressing is very good and dead silent. Mixing is awesome, it sounds big, bold, deep, detailed and airy at the same time. Cymbal hits can sound a tad bit on the laidback side, but nitpicking here… Soundstage is wide and deep and separation is very good. The congas sounds like they’re in my living room, wow! Bass and percussions are quite visceral. Like every MOFI, the sleeves fits a bit tight in the jacket... Definitely not cheap, but MOFI nailed it with this one IMO. This is a great Carlos Santana album and this UK pressing sounds amazing. The sound is really fresh, natural, punchy and crispy.

The mastering for this first press is well balanced . I bought mine used with a slight torn cover but overall its fine. Im not sure about japan pressing but this us copy is good. One of my fav santana album.

The photo of front cover has price sticker with a $ symbol. This is supposed to be the UK release….?

This pressing is fantastic. Highly recommend.
That Columbia label variation was used In the US from 1970 until well into the 90s

CBS Records Canada existed under that name from June 1976-1990 so this reissue is somewhere in that time frame.

This certainly differs with the runout information on Discogs. I think the sound is quite good on this release. I can compare to a first pressing and say that it is similar but with a more pronounced bottom end. The vinyl is dead quiet and flat. Given that it is difficult to find a original pressing in really good condition this Sundazed copy does play well and the price is right.

This sounds pretty perfect. Can’t think of any way that it can be improved.

Still the best digital version of this album anywhere. Same mastering as the Mastersound gold CD (by Boutote) but with the addition of the bonus tracks (mastered by Anesini). I'll take this over MFSL's gold CD and SACD editions which are okay but have a noticeably harder sound from the upper midrange.
